Smile Education are currently looking for an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join one of their supportive SEN schools in the Tamworth area on a long-term, full-time basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant who has a strong understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and can build positive, trusting relationships with children who may present with challenging behaviours.
The Role
- Supporting a child with identified SEMH needs within an SEN school environment
- Providing consistent, positive and nurturing support throughout the school day
- Working closely with teaching staff and the wider school team
- Supporting the child's emotional regulation, engagement and learning
- Using effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Have considerable experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
- Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Education or equivalent qualification
- Have strong behaviour management skills and confidence supporting challenging behaviour
- Be patient, resilient and consistent in their approach
- Be able to build strong, positive relationships with pupils
- Be able to provide references that specifically comment on their experience and interaction with children with SEMH needs
- Be committed to the role on a long-term, full-time basis
- Work effectively as part of a wider school and support team
