SEN Teaching Assistant – (SEMH Specialism)
Location: Stoke-on-Trent
Salary: £95-£115 per day / £475-£575 per week
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only

We are recruiting for a specialist SEN school supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils have experienced significant challenges in their lives and can present with behaviours that challenge. We are looking for strong, capable individuals who can build positive relationships, maintain clear boundaries, and help pupils achieve their full potential.
Previous school-based experience is desirable but not essential. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with backgrounds in:
- Residential care
- Youth work
- Youth offending services
- Prison services
- Mental health support
- Behaviour support
- Social care
- Armed forces
- Support work
If you have experience working with vulnerable young people or individuals who require patience, structure, and consistency, your skills could be highly transferable to this role.
The Role
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom
- Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour positively and professionally
- Building trusting relationships with pupils who may struggle to engage with education
- Supporting learning, emotional regulation, and personal development
- Working closely with teachers, therapists, and wider support staff

Desirable
- Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching & Learning, SEN, Childcare, or equivalent
- Previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs
- Behaviour management or intervention training
