Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
We're working with a supportive school in Rochdale looking for a resilient and caring SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. The role is focused on building positive relationships, supporting behaviour and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Support pupils with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement
- Build strong, trusting relationships and act as a positive role model
- Encourage pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence
- Support pupils to access learning and remain engaged in the classroom
- Use positive behaviour strategies and consistent boundaries
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider support team
- Help maintain a calm, safe and nurturing environment
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
- Experience in a PRU, alternative provision, SEN school or challenging mainstream setting is desirable
- Calm, patient and resilient
- Confident managing challenging behaviour
- Able to build genuine and positive relationships with young people
- Passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to education
- A relevant TA qualification is desirable but not essential
