About the Role
Balfor is seeking an experienced and dedicated SEN English Teacher to join a specialist school in Langport, Somerset, supporting students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
The role will involve planning and delivering engaging English lessons adapted to meet the individual learning needs of students with additional needs. You will work closely with the wider SEN team to support students' academic progress, confidence and development.
About the School
The school is an independent specialist setting supporting young people aged 7–19 with additional needs, including SEMH, Autism, ADHD and learning disabilities.
Students benefit from small class sizes, high levels of staff support and personalised learning, including 1:1 and small-group support within a nurturing and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons across KS3 and KS4.
- Adapt English lessons and resources to meet a range of individual learning needs.
- Support students working below age-related expectations to develop their literacy and communication skills.
- Use a range of teaching strategies to support students with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and learning disabilities.
- Monitor student progress and provide appropriate feedback and encouragement.
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and the wider SEN team.
- Promote positive behaviour, engagement and participation in learning.
- Contribute to individualised learning plans and students' wider development.
- Create a safe, inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
Person Specification
- QTS or a recognised teaching qualification.
- Minimum of 6 months' UK teaching experience within an educational setting.
- Experience teaching English at secondary level, particularly KS3 and/or KS4.
- Previous experience working within SEN, SEND or specialist education is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting students with Autism, SEMH, ADHD or learning disabilities.
- Ability to differentiate and adapt English lessons to meet individual learning needs.
- Strong classroom management, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, nurturing and flexible approach to supporting students with additional needs.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to undergo a new check.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
