Certus Education is recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEN secondary school in Hertfordshire that is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join its supportive team. About the Opportunity
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other experienced professionals to provide tailored support to students with a range of special educational needs. You will help create a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment where every young person is encouraged to reach their full potential.
The role will involve supporting students both within the classroom and across the wider school environment, helping them to develop their confidence, independence and social skills.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to students with additional needs
- Supporting students to engage with learning and access the curriculum
- Working alongside teachers to implement individual learning and support strategies
- Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation and independence
- Building strong, trusting and positive relationships with students
- Supporting students with their communication, social and emotional development
- Helping students develop practical skills and confidence in preparation for adulthood
- Assisting with classroom activities, resources and interventions
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN professionals and other members of the support team
- Creating a calm, nurturing and inclusive environment where students feel valued and supported
Who We're Looking For
The school is looking for someone who is patient, resilient, compassionate and genuinely passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
You may have previous experience working within a school, SEN setting, care environment, youth work or another role supporting children or young people. However, the school is also keen to hear from individuals with the right attitude, values and willingness to learn.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN environment
- Have a genuine interest in supporting students with additional needs
- Be patient, empathetic and able to build positive relationships
- Have excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Be confident supporting students who may display challenging behaviours
- Be calm, adaptable and able to respond positively to different situations
- Be committed to helping every student achieve their individual potential
- Have a proactive and nurturing approach to supporting learning and development
