SEN Learning Support Assistant – SLD Specialist School

Salary: £100–£101.80 per day

Are you a patient and compassionate SEN Learning Support Assistant looking for a genuinely rewarding role? A specialist school in Hertfordshire is seeking committed support staff to work with primary-aged pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and other complex additional needs.
The school supports children aged 4–11 with needs including SLD, MLD, autism and speech, language and communication difficulties. Every pupil is recognised as an individual, and every step of progress is celebrated.
The Role
As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will work alongside experienced teachers and specialist staff to help pupils access learning, communicate, regulate and become more independent.
Responsibilities will include:
• Supporting pupils individually and in small groups
• Helping children work towards EHCP and learning targets
• Using visual and alternative communication strategies
• Supporting sensory activities and therapeutic programmes
• Encouraging social, emotional and communication development
• Promoting independence and everyday life skills
• Maintaining consistent routines and clear boundaries
• Assisting with personal care, feeding and toileting where required
• Safeguarding pupils and supporting their wellbeing
About You
The successful SEN Learning Support Assistant will be calm, resilient and able to build trusting relationships with children who communicate and learn in different ways.
Experience within a special school, SEN provision, care setting or with children who have complex needs would be advantageous. However, applicants with the right attitude, values and willingness to learn are also encouraged to apply.
You will need:
• A genuine interest in supporting children with SEND
• Patience, reliability and emotional resilience
• A flexible and proactive approach
• Confidence working as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Willingness to provide personal care with dignity and sensitivity
• The right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
