SEN Specialist Tutor - Outreach (Havering)

About the Opportunity

Prospero Teaching is seeking an experienced and compassionate SEN Specialist Tutor to deliver bespoke 1:1 tuition to young people across Havering with a wide range of additional needs. Learners may present with PMLD, complex needs, medical needs, ASD, SEMH, or other significant barriers to accessing mainstream education.

Tuition will focus on English and Maths, typically for 10-15 hours per week, delivered in the home or community setting. Many of these young people have experienced disrupted education, so your ability to build trust, adapt your approach, and deliver highly personalised learning is essential.

As an Outreach Tutor, you will design and deliver tailored sessions that support academic progress, communication, independence, and confidence. Prospero Teaching will work closely with you to monitor progress and ensure each learner receives consistent, high‑quality support.

Contract / Position Details

  • Location - Havering and surrounding areas
  • Position - SEN Specialist Tutor (English & Maths)
  • Type of Work - 1:1 outreach tuition
  • Start Date - ASAP
  • Duration - Ongoing, dependent on student needs
  • Contract Type - Temporary
  • Hours - Approximately 10-15 hours per week
  • Rate of Pay - From £25 per hour

Experience, Training and Qualifications

  • QTS, QTLS, PGCE or equivalent
  • Strong experience supporting pupils with PMLD, complex needs, medical needs, or similar
  • Experience delivering English and Maths at an appropriate level
  • Minimum 6 months' experience in a UK school or specialist setting
  • Up‑to‑date Safeguarding Training (desirable)

To Be Eligible for This Role, You Must:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
  • Provide two professional references covering the last two years
