Aspire People are currently recruiting for a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Birmingham.
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate Teaching Assistant who has experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and is looking for a rewarding, long-term position working 5 days per week.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to provide high-quality support to pupils with a range of additional needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN.
Supporting children with their learning and development across the primary curriculum.
Assisting pupils with English, Mathematics, reading and phonics.
Supporting children with communication and interaction difficulties.
Encouraging pupils to develop independence, confidence and positive learning behaviours.
Supporting children with emotional and behavioural needs.
Helping to implement individual learning and support plans.
Adapting activities and resources to meet individual pupils' needs.
Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining a calm and inclusive learning environment.
Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to monitor pupils' progress.
Building strong, positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
Supporting pupils during classroom activities, break times and other aspects of the school day where required.
Following all school policies and safeguarding procedures.
The Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for someone who is caring, patient, resilient and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
The ideal candidate will have:
Previous experience working within a primary school or education setting.
Experience supporting children with SEN or additional needs.
A patient and nurturing approach to working with children.
The ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to remain calm and consistent when managing challenging situations.
A flexible and proactive approach to supporting pupils.
The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
A strong understanding of safeguarding and children's wellbeing.
Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties or other additional needs would be advantageous.
