SEN Teacher – Small Nurture Provision – Newham, East London

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and nurturing SEN Teacher to join a secondary school in Newham, London, supporting a small group of approximately 8 Year 11 students with additional needs.

The students do not follow the mainstream curriculum and instead access a highly adapted, personalised programme within a nurturing, primary-style learning environment. Although they are aged 15, many students are working significantly below age-related expectations, with some accessing learning at a primary level.

The successful teacher will be responsible for delivering core subjects through a highly differentiated and individualised approach, adapting learning to meet the students' developmental stages, abilities and specific needs.

The Role

  • Teaching a small group of approximately 8 Year 11 students
  • Working within a specialist SEN/nurture provision
  • Delivering core subjects through a highly adapted and personalised curriculum
  • Supporting students working significantly below age-related expectations
  • Creating a calm, nurturing and supportive learning environment
  • Working closely with specialist support staff and colleagues
  • Planning and adapting lessons to meet a wide range of individual needs
  • Supporting students' academic, social and emotional development

The Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in teachers who have:

  • Strong SEN teaching experience
  • Experience working with students with complex or additional needs
  • A nurturing, patient and adaptable approach
  • Experience differentiating and personalising the curriculum
  • The ability to engage students working significantly below age-related expectations
  • A genuine passion for helping young people make progress at their own pace

Primary-trained teachers with strong SEN experience may be particularly well suited to this role, given the primary-style approach and level of curriculum adaptation required.

The successful candidate will be supported by other specialist colleagues, so this is not a standalone role.

Due to the urgent nature of the vacancy, the school is ideally looking to arrange trial days early next week, with the current teacher due to commence maternity leave imminently.

If you are an experienced SEN Teacher, Primary Teacher or teacher with a strong background in nurture provision and are available to start at short notice, please apply.

The successful candidates will be subject to a variety of checks including: eligibility to work in the UK, an enhanced DBS disclosure and full references including one from your most recent employer. Strategy Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
