Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Cheetham Hill, Manchester

Hours: 8.30am – 3.30pm, Term Time Only
Pay Rate: £92.87-110 per day

Cover People are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, from September. This full-time role will be based within the school's Year 7 Specialist Provision, supporting students with additional learning and behavioural needs as they transition from primary into secondary education.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant with strong behaviour management skills and a passion for helping young people build confidence in their learning. The successful candidate will work closely with a small group of Year 7 students, delivering targeted support in English and Maths, with a particular focus on developing reading, writing and numeracy skills to help learners achieve key academic milestones.

The school has a well-established SEND department and is committed to providing an inclusive environment where every student is supported to thrive both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Year 7 students within the school's specialist SEND provision.
  • Deliver small group and individual interventions in English and Maths.
  • Help students develop core literacy skills, including reading comprehension, writing and phonics where appropriate.
  • Support learners in achieving academic milestones and building confidence in the classroom.
  • Promote positive behaviour through consistent routines, clear expectations and positive relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SEND department and pastoral staff to implement individual support plans.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment where students can flourish.
Requirements
  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant within a school setting.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and confidence supporting students with additional needs.
  • Experience supporting Key Stage 2 learners or students working at a primary curriculum level is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of SEND, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH or Moderate Learning Difficulties, is advantageous.
  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach with a genuine passion for supporting young people.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
