SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Smallfield, Surrey
Salary: £14.30 - £15.50 per hour (based on experience)
Hours: 40 hours per week – Term Time Only
Working hours: 8.15am start. Finish times: Monday, Wednesday & Thursday 4.45pm, Tuesday 5.00pm, Friday 4.00pm
Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs? We are working with a specialist school in Smallfield, Surrey, seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team.
The school supports students aged 11–16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), providing a structured, supportive, and inclusive environment. Pupils are encouraged to develop academically, socially, and emotionally, while working towards qualifications and skills that will help them prepare for adulthood.
About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils access their learning and reach their individual potential. You will work alongside classroom staff to provide tailored support, encourage independence, and promote positive outcomes for every student.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils to support their wellbeing and engagement
- Providing classroom support and assisting the teacher with daily learning activities
- Helping pupils build confidence, independence, and essential life skills
- Supporting students with communication, emotional regulation, behaviour, and social development
- Adapting to the changing needs of pupils and the wider school environment
- Contributing to a safe, calm, and positive learning setting
- Supporting behaviour strategies when required, including physical intervention following appropriate training
Experience & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above (or equivalent)
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable)
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, ideally within a specialist setting
- Knowledge or experience of supporting pupils with autism and additional needs
- Team Teach training (advantageous)
- A caring, patient, and adaptable approach
