Teach Now is recruiting a compassionate but boundaried SEN Teaching Assistant for a long-term SEMH-support position in Brent.
You will work with pupils whose emotional needs can affect attendance, relationships, behaviour and engagement with learning. Success in this role will come from being predictable, observant and patient. You will help pupils understand expectations, recover from difficult moments and experience achievement within the classroom.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop a career in SEN, pastoral support, educational psychology or therapeutic education.
- Establishing positive and professional relationships with identified pupils
- Providing individual and small-group academic support
- Helping pupils use emotional-regulation and communication strategies
- Supporting arrival, transitions, unstructured times and reintegration
- Using praise, choices and clear consequences consistently
- Implementing support plans agreed by teachers and the SENCO
- Responding to dysregulation without confrontation
- Recording progress and incidents accurately
- Sharing relevant observations with the wider support team
- Encouraging social skills, confidence and independence
- Supporting a safe and inclusive environment for all pupils
You should demonstrate:
- Relevant experience with children or young people with SEMH needs
- An understanding of why behaviour may communicate unmet needs
- Strong emotional regulation and professional judgement
- The ability to build rapport without compromising boundaries
- Confidence working collaboratively with teachers and specialists
- A reliable, reflective and non-judgemental approach
- Commitment to safeguarding and confidentiality
- The right to work in the UK
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
- Two suitable professional references
