SEN Teaching Assistant – Harpenden

Location: Harpenden area

Contract: Full-time
Pay: £85–£115 per day (dependent on experience)

Supply Desk are currently seeking a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in the Harpenden area. The successful candidate will provide dedicated support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, helping them to access learning, build confidence and develop both academically and personally.

Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs and wider support staff, you will play an important role in creating a positive, nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every pupil is encouraged to reach their full potential.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs, building positive relationships and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs, and social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support according to individual pupil requirements
  • Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum and participating fully in classroom activities
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social development
  • Monitor and communicate information regarding pupil progress, engagement and wellbeing
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, parents/carers and external professionals
  • Adapt support approaches and strategies to meet individual learning and behavioural needs
  • Encourage pupils to develop independence, confidence and resilience
  • ·         Help create and maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment

Role Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs is preferred
  • An understanding of a range of SEN needs and appropriate support strategies
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A positive and consistent approach to behaviour management
  • A genuine passion for education and supporting children and young people
  • A good understanding of safeguarding
  • Previous experience working in a primary or secondary school is desirable
