About the Role

Are you a resilient, patient and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a talent for building positive relationships with children who present challenging behaviour?

A large and inclusive primary school in Colindale is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 3 pupil who requires consistent behavioural and emotional support throughout the school day. The child currently struggles to remain in class, can be reluctant to follow instructions and often chooses to disengage from learning. However, positive progress has already been made through a relationship-based approach, and the school is committed to continuing this journey.

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will play a key role in helping the pupil develop trust, improve engagement and build the skills needed to access learning successfully. This role requires someone calm, consistent and determined, who understands that meaningful progress is achieved through patience, structure and strong relationships.

Requirements
• Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or Behaviour Mentor
• Experience supporting children with behavioural, social and emotional needs
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• Relevant SEN or behaviour support qualifications are beneficial
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
• A calm, resilient and nurturing approach
• Ability to remain consistent and positive when faced with challenges

Key Responsibilities
• Provide dedicated support for a Year 3 pupil with behavioural needs
• Encourage engagement with learning and classroom routines
• Implement behaviour support strategies agreed by the school
• Build a trusting and positive relationship with the pupil
• Support emotional regulation and positive decision-making
• Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and families to ensure consistency
