Salary: £90–£100 per day, depending on experience and qualifications.
Are you a caring and dedicated Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference? A welcoming primary school in Finchley, Barnet, is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with Autism from September 2026.
This is a rewarding role supporting a child who thrives with a structured, nurturing approach and positive relationships. The school offers excellent support, including access to a sensory room and guidance from experienced staff and SEN professionals.
About the Role
You will support a non-verbal Year 1 pupil with Autism who communicates through single words, gestures, and other non-verbal methods. Responsibilities include helping the pupil access learning, supporting personal care and toileting needs, and following established behaviour and communication strategies.
The pupil has a keen interest in books, animals, and dinosaurs, and responds well to patient, consistent, and engaging adults.
Requirements:
• Experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Knowledge of communication strategies for non-verbal pupils
• Confidence supporting personal care and toileting needs
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach
• The ability to build trusting relationships and encourage engagement
• Experience managing challenging behaviour or emotional dysregulation is desirable
