SEN Teaching Assistant – Year 4 SEND Support

Location: Barnet, North London
Salary: £90–£100 per day, dependent on experience and qualifications
Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary
Start Date: 14 September 2026 – immediate availability preferred

Teach Now is seeking a proactive and adaptable SEN Teaching Assistant to join a Year 4 classroom at a welcoming junior school in Barnet.

This is a varied classroom-based position rather than a dedicated 1:1 role. You will work flexibly across several identified pupils, including children with autism, ADHD and attention or engagement needs, helping them access learning and become increasingly independent.

The Role

As the SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Break instructions and activities into clear, manageable steps.
• Check pupils understanding and provide additional explanations where required.
• Help children remain focused, engaged and ready to learn.
• Recognise when a pupil is beginning to disengage and adapt your approach.
• Support positive behaviour and reinforce appropriate classroom expectations.
• Encourage independence without creating unnecessary reliance on adult support.
• Work flexibly across target pupils according to the needs of each lesson.
• Collaborate closely with the class teacher and other support staff.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal SEN Teaching Assistant will:

• Have previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or supporting children in a school.
• Understand autism, ADHD and additional learning needs.
• Be confident adapting tasks and communication for individual pupils.
• Build positive relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
• Be observant, organised and able to identify where support is needed.
• Enjoy working with several pupils rather than expecting a fixed 1:1 assignment.

Why Apply?
• Join a supportive Year 4 team in a welcoming Barnet school.
• Gain varied experience supporting a range of SEND needs.
• Take on a potentially long-term classroom opportunity.
• Help pupils develop confidence, engagement and independence.
