The Supply Register is working in partnership with Prospere Trust to recruit dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join the team at Pioneer House SEN School in Manchester.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them to engage with learning, develop their independence and achieve their individual goals.

You will work closely with teachers and the wider school team to provide tailored support in the classroom and across the school day. Every pupil is unique, and you will help create a positive, inclusive and nurturing environment where they feel safe, valued and supported.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with special educational needs.

  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.

  • Helping pupils develop their confidence, communication, social skills and independence.

  • Supporting positive behaviour and encouraging pupils to develop appropriate strategies for managing emotions and challenges.

  • Assisting teachers with classroom activities, preparation and learning resources.

  • Providing support during lessons, break times, lunchtimes and other activities throughout the school day.

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils.

  • Following individual education, care and behaviour plans as appropriate.

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, families and other professionals.

  • Maintaining a safe, supportive and stimulating learning environment.

  • Celebrating pupils' achievements and encouraging them to reach their individual potential.

About You

We are looking for someone who is caring, patient, resilient and passionate about helping young people succeed.

You may already have experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker, Youth Worker or in another education or care-based role. However, we also welcome applications from individuals with transferable experience and the right attitude who are looking to develop their career within special educational needs.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with additional needs.

  • A patient, calm and empathetic approach.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils.

  • A genuine commitment to supporting inclusion and individual development.

  • The confidence to work as part of a wider school team.

  • A flexible and proactive approach to supporting pupils' changing needs.

  • The ability to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations.

  • A willingness to learn and develop professionally.
