SEN Teaching Assistant

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:30am-4:30pm | Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm
Contract: Full-time

We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team in Lymington. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who have a range of special educational needs, providing the encouragement, structure and individualised support they need to thrive.

You will be supporting students with a variety of needs, including:

• Autism and complex learning profiles
• Co-existing difficulties associated with autism, including ADHD
• Statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
• Specific learning difficulties, including dyslexia and dyspraxia
• Language and social communication needs
• Social, emotional and mental health needs
• Sensory integration and processing difficulties
• Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
• Heightened anxiety
• Selective mutism
• Self-harm
• Challenging behaviour
• A history of placement breakdowns

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping students feel safe, supported and able to engage with their education.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs
• Supporting students to access learning and develop their confidence and independence
• Building positive, trusting relationships with students
• Helping students manage anxiety, emotions and challenging situations
• Supporting communication and social development
• Following individual support plans, EHCP recommendations and behaviour strategies
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals
• Promoting a calm, consistent and nurturing learning environment
• Supporting students with developing life skills and preparing them for greater independence

Previous experience working with SEN, autism, ADHD, challenging behaviour or complex needs would be highly desirable. However, the right attitude, compassion and willingness to learn are equally important.
