Do you enjoy helping young people overcome challenges and get the most from their time at school? A secondary school in Hounslow is looking for a caring and dependable SEN Teaching Assistant to provide additional support to pupils from September 2026.
This is a full-time Monday to Friday position, with the school day running approximately from 8:15am until 4:00pm.
The successful candidate will join a team that is focused on removing barriers to learning and helping pupils feel comfortable, confident and included. You will work with students who may require additional support with their learning, communication, concentration, behaviour or emotional development.
Your Role Within the School
You will be an important point of support for pupils who need additional help to participate successfully in school life. Some students may benefit from regular one-to-one assistance, while others may need support within the classroom or during specific activities.
Building trust will be a key part of the role. You will need to understand that progress can look different for every pupil and be able to celebrate small achievements while encouraging students to keep developing their independence.
Responsibilities
Provide tailored support to pupils with additional educational needs.
Help students participate in lessons and complete classroom activities.
Work with individuals or small groups depending on pupil requirements.
Break down tasks and instructions where appropriate.
Encourage students to communicate, participate and develop confidence.
Support pupils in developing greater independence.
Help students manage transitions and changes to their routine.
Promote positive behaviour and reinforce agreed expectations.
Work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team.
Follow relevant pupil support strategies and school procedures.
Keep staff informed of any concerns or changes in a pupil's presentation or engagement.
Contribute towards an inclusive and respectful school environment.
What We Need From You
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN is desirable.
A genuine commitment to inclusive education.
Patient, calm and empathetic nature.
Ability to build strong relationships based on trust and consistency.
Good communication skills.
Resilience when dealing with challenging situations.
Ability to adapt your approach according to individual needs.
Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary school team.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
Right to work in the UK.
