SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Autism & PDA Support) – Year 2
Location: Finchley, N12
Start Date: Thursday 3rd September 2026
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15am – 3:30pm
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Pay: £108.75 – £112.00 per day
We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming, Ofsted-rated Good, one-form entry primary school in Finchley (N12) for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their Year 2 team from 3rd September 2026.
This is a rewarding opportunity to provide 1:1 support for a child with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) who is currently accessing school on a reduced timetable. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the child's learning, emotional regulation and engagement within the school environment.
Outside of the child's reduced timetable, you will work as a general Year 2 Teaching Assistant, supporting the class teacher and pupils across the classroom.
The Role
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with Autism and PDA.
- Build a positive, trusting relationship to support learning and emotional wellbeing.
- Use effective behaviour management strategies and adapt your approach to meet the child's individual needs.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals.
- Support learning and classroom activities as a general Year 2 Teaching Assistant when the pupil is not in school.
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has previous experience supporting children with Autism and/or PDA (school-based experience preferred).
- Has excellent behaviour management skills and can remain calm, patient and consistent.
- Is proactive, nurturing and able to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- Is reliable, flexible and committed to supporting children with additional needs.
- Holds an Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or is willing to apply for one before starting.
