About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Ealing from September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and caring individual who is passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and helping them achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), working closely with the class teacher and SEN team to support the child’s learning, communication, independence and emotional wellbeing.

You will play a key role in creating a safe, structured and nurturing environment, helping the pupil access learning and develop confidence through personalised support and targeted SEN strategies.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD within a mainstream primary classroom.

· Support the pupil’s communication, learning, social skills and independence.

· Use communication approaches including PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton to support interaction, understanding and engagement.

· Support the delivery of SEN interventions including LEGO Therapy, Colourful Semantics, sensory activities and other personalised strategies.

· Adapt classroom activities and resources to meet the pupil’s individual needs.

· Support emotional regulation, positive behaviour and engagement in learning.

· Provide personal care support where required, ensuring dignity, privacy and respect at all times.

· Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to implement individual support plans and promote progress.

· Encourage independence, confidence and positive social development.

· Support the pupil during lessons, playtimes, lunchtimes and school activities.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

· Previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly ASD, within a school setting.

· Experience providing 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs.

· Knowledge and experience using PECS and Makaton.

· Experience with SEN approaches such as LEGO Therapy, Colourful Semantics, visual communication tools or sensory strategies.

· A caring, patient and consistent approach.

· The ability to build strong relationships with pupils and support their individual development.

· Strong communication and teamwork skills.

· Confidence supporting personal care needs.

· A genuine passion for helping children with additional needs thrive.

· An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (DBS on UDS) or willingness to apply.
