About the role and school

Teach Plus are currently recruiting for an experienced and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Mill Hill, starting ASAP. This full-time Teaching Assistant role will involve providing dedicated 1:1 support to a child in Year 6 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). The successful Teaching Assistant will play an important role in helping the pupil access the Year 6 curriculum, manage anxiety and emotions, and develop greater confidence and independence within the school environment.

The school is a large, inclusive primary school in Mill Hill with a strong community ethos and a commitment to ensuring every child is supported to achieve their potential. The school provides a broad and engaging curriculum within a positive learning environment, with experienced leadership and a supportive staff team. Inclusion and pupil wellbeing are central to the school's approach, with teachers, support staff and the SEN team working collaboratively to meet the individual needs of pupils.

This SEN Teaching Assistant opportunity would particularly suit someone with previous experience supporting children with ASD, PDA or other additional needs. The school is looking for a patient, resilient and adaptable SEN Teaching Assistant who can build a positive relationship with the pupil while using a calm, flexible and child-centred approach. Job Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 6 pupil with ASD and PDA
  • Support the pupil in accessing the Year 6 curriculum and participating in classroom activities
  • Implement appropriate strategies to reduce anxiety and support emotional regulation
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive engagement with learning
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to provide consistent support
  • Monitor the pupil's progress and adapt support strategies according to their individual needs

Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role
  • Strong subject/curriculum knowledge relevant to the role
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate with the Update Service
  • Right to work in the UK
