Do you have the patience, creativity and commitment to help young people who have struggled with mainstream education? We are looking for an SEN Tutor in Northampton to provide personalised educational support to learners who need a different approach to learning.

The successful SEN tutor will deliver individual tuition within learners' homes and local community settings, helping young people rebuild their confidence, develop essential skills and work towards appropriate GCSE or Functional Skills outcomes.

You may be supporting learners who have missed significant periods of education or who require additional encouragement to re-engage with learning. Assignments vary in length, giving tutors the opportunity to take on work that fits around their existing commitments.

What You'll Be Doing as SEN Tutor in Northampton

  • Plan and deliver engaging 1:1 learning sessions based on each learner's individual abilities and targets.
  • Help young people make progress in English, Maths and Functional Skills.
  • Work with learners who may have fallen behind with their GCSE studies.
  • Establish where learners need additional support and adjust your teaching accordingly.
  • Encourage young people who have become disengaged from education to gradually rebuild their confidence.
  • Provide appropriate support to learners experiencing EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance).

The Ideal SEN tutor in Northampton

  • Previous experience working with young people is beneficial, although this is not essential.
  • An understanding of SEN and the different barriers that can affect a young person's education.
  • Experience working with learners affected by EBSA would be an advantage.
  • Confident knowledge of English and Maths, including the ability to work towards GCSE or Functional Skills level where appropriate.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential for travelling to different learner locations.
  • Someone who is approachable, patient and able to adapt their teaching style.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to gain the trust of learners.
  • A genuine desire to help young people progress both academically and personally.
  • Available to commute to Northampton
