Quantum Scholars is looking for a supportive, patient and experienced SEND English Tutor to provide one-to-one educational support to a student in Somerset. This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
The role will involve providing tailored English tuition to a student who may benefit from a flexible and personalised approach to learning. You will be expected to build a positive and trusting relationship with the student, adapt your teaching to their individual needs and help develop their confidence, engagement and progress in English.
The successful tutor will be able to create engaging and accessible lessons while remaining flexible to the student's pace, interests and individual learning needs. Experience working with young people with SEND or those who have found mainstream education challenging would be particularly beneficial.
The role may involve
- Delivering one-to-one English tuition tailored to the student's individual needs
- Supporting the student with areas of the English curriculum appropriate to their age and ability
- Developing skills in reading, writing, comprehension, spelling and grammar where appropriate
- Planning engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging learning activities
- Adapting teaching methods to suit the student's individual learning style and needs
- Helping the student develop confidence and a positive attitude towards learning
- Supporting the development of independent learning, organisation and study skills
- Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback
- Building a consistent and positive relationship with the student
- Working collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals where required
- Maintaining clear and professional communication
- Following safeguarding procedures at all times
Essential requirements
- Experience teaching or tutoring English to children or young people
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND, ideally in a one-to-one setting
- A good understanding of the English curriculum
- The ability to plan and deliver engaging, personalised learning
- Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills
- A patient, flexible and supportive approach
- The ability to adapt teaching to meet individual learning needs
- A genuine commitment to supporting young people to achieve their potential
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check, where required
- Satisfactory professional references
- You must have the right to work in the UK.
