SEND Teacher - QTS | Functional & Life Skills

Luma Education Recruitment Ltd

Luma Education Recruitment is currently recruiting for a QTS-qualified Teacher to join an impressive specialist education setting in Totnes, Devon.

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher looking for something a little different from mainstream education. The role combines teaching, outdoor learning, life skills and preparation for adulthood, giving you the opportunity to support young people both inside and outside the classroom.

If you're a mainstream teacher considering a move into SEND, specialist education or Alternative Provision, this could be a fantastic opportunity to develop your experience while enjoying a more practical and personalised approach to teaching.

About the Role

You will work with young people with a range of additional needs, delivering personalised learning that goes beyond the traditional classroom environment.

Alongside Maths, English and Functional Skills, you'll have the opportunity to support pupils with developing their independence, confidence, communication and everyday life skills.

Depending on the needs of the pupils, learning may include:

  • Maths, English and Functional Skills
  • Practical and outdoor learning
  • Life skills and independent living skills
  • Preparation for adulthood
  • Developing communication and social skills
  • Supporting confidence and emotional development
  • Community-based and practical activities
  • Encouraging independence and positive decision-making
  • Supporting pupils to discover interests, strengths and future pathways

This is a role where no two days need to look exactly the same, and where building positive relationships with young people is just as important as delivering a lesson.

Why Consider This SEND Teaching Role?

This could be particularly well suited to a teacher who wants to step away from the pressures of mainstream teaching while continuing to make a real difference to young people.

You'll benefit from:

  • £150–£240 per day, depending on experience
  • Full-time Monday–Friday working
  • School-hours working
  • A supportive specialist education environment
  • Smaller groups and personalised learning
  • Dedicated time for planning and preparation
  • Training and professional development
  • Opportunities to develop SEND experience
  • Potential temp-to-perm opportunities
  • Free on-site parking
  • A fantastic location in Totnes, Devon
  • The opportunity to combine classroom teaching with practical, outdoor and life-skills learning

Who We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from QTS-qualified Teachers from a variety of backgrounds.

You may already have experience working in SEND, SEN, SEMH or Alternative Provision, or you could be a mainstream teacher looking for a new challenge.

We're particularly interested in teachers who are:

  • QTS qualified
  • Passionate about working with young people
  • Patient, positive and enthusiastic
  • Creative and adaptable in their approach to teaching
  • Confident supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Interested in practical and outdoor learning
  • Keen to develop their SEND experience
  • Passionate about helping young people become more independent
  • Comfortable working both inside and outside the classroom

Experience with SEND, autism, SEMH, learning difficulties or challenging behaviour would be beneficial, but relevant transferable experience will also be considered.

A Different Approach to Teaching

If you're a teacher who enjoys getting outside, being active, building relationships and helping young people develop skills for life, this could be a great fit.

The setting takes a personalised approach to education, helping pupils develop not only academically but also socially, emotionally and practically.

It's an opportunity to teach Maths and English, get involved in practical activities, support life skills and help young people prepare for their next steps.
