SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary School in Tameside

An ambitious and inclusive primary school in Tameside is looking to appoint an experienced Level 2 or Level 3 qualified SEND Teaching Assistant to join its dedicated Inclusion Team from September.

Working alongside an experienced SENCO, class teachers, therapists and pastoral staff, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve the outcomes identified within their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide high-quality 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs.

• Support children with a range of SEND including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

  • ADHD

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)

  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)

  • Sensory processing differences

• Deliver targeted interventions linked to pupils' EHCP outcomes.

• Adapt learning activities to enable pupils to access the curriculum successfully.

• Promote communication, emotional regulation, independence and positive social interaction.

• Use visual supports, sensory strategies and adaptive approaches to meet individual learning needs.

• Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals including Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Educational Psychologists.

• Monitor progress and contribute to reviews, observations and provision planning.

You'll be joining a school where SEND is embedded into everyday practice, not treated as an afterthought.

The successful candidate will have:

• A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (essential).

• Previous experience supporting pupils with SEND within a primary school.

• A sound understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and inclusive classroom practice.

• Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language Needs, SEMH or other additional needs.

• Confidence implementing strategies identified within EHCPs and behaviour support plans.

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• A calm, patient and resilient approach with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

Experience using strategies such as Visual Timetables, PECS, Makaton, Attention Autism, Zones of Regulation, sensory regulation techniques or Team Teach would be advantageous.
