Rotherwood Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to work on a full-time basis in a supportive secondary school in the Accrington area.

This is an ongoing opportunity for a committed Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and helping them overcome barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will provide support to pupils both within the classroom and on a one-to-one or small-group basis. You will work closely with teaching staff and the school's SEND and pastoral teams to ensure pupils receive the appropriate support to access learning and make progress.

The Role

The role will involve:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of SEND needs
  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and develop their confidence and independence
  • Adapting support and using appropriate strategies to meet individual learning and behavioural needs
  • Supporting pupils with their social, emotional and communication needs where required
  • Working closely with teachers and the wider school team
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, engagement and participation in learning
  • Maintaining appropriate records and communicating relevant information to staff
  • Promoting safeguarding and pupil wellbeing at all times

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, preferably within a secondary school environment.

You will be patient, caring and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Experience supporting pupils with needs such as autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, learning difficulties or social, emotional and mental health needs would be highly beneficial.

You should have good communication skills, be able to work effectively as part of a team and have a genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential.

Candidates will be required to provide details of their last two references covering the previous five years' work history and must have a current DBS or be prepared to apply for one. A face-to-face registration and relevant safeguarding checks will also be required.
