Salary depends on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial SEND experience and/or relevant training, such as a recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, term time only
About the Role
Teach Now is seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Barnet, providing dedicated 2:1 support for a primary-aged pupil with additional needs.
The school supports children and young people aged 4–19 and takes a highly personalised approach to learning. Teachers, support staff and therapeutic professionals work closely together, with access to sensory spaces and dedicated therapy rooms helping pupils engage, communicate and build greater independence.
Working alongside another support colleague, you will help the pupil access adapted lessons and activities, follow agreed strategies and provide a calm, consistent approach throughout the school day. You will also observe progress, share feedback with the wider team and support communication, social interaction and independence.
This role would suit someone with strong SEND experience who is patient, reliable and confident working collaboratively within a specialist setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent 2:1 support alongside another member of staff.
- Help the pupil access lessons and activities adapted to their individual needs.
- Follow strategies and support plans agreed with teachers and the wider specialist team.
- Encourage communication, social development, confidence and independence.
- Share observations and progress updates to support ongoing planning.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
- Confidence working as part of a team and following individual support strategies.
- A calm, patient and consistent approach to supporting learning and development.
- The right to work in the UK and ability to provide employment references.
- Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and relevant safeguarding checks.
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
