About the Role:
Vocational Recruitment is working in partnership with a welcoming form entry primary school in Redbridge to appoint an experienced and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant for a full-time role starting in September 2026.
This long-term position involves supporting pupils within the school’s nurture room, working closely with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including non-verbal pupils. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students’ communication, emotional regulation, engagement, and overall development within a structured and nurturing environment.
The school is looking for a proactive and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant with previous ASD experience. Knowledge of Makaton would be highly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities for the SEND Teaching Assistant role:
- Provide support for pupils with ASD within the nurture room
- Work closely with non-verbal children using visual aids and communication strategies
- Support communication and interaction
- Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions
- Promote pupil confidence, independence, and engagement
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
- Laise effectively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
- Track and report on pupil progress when required
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all pupils
Requirements for the SEND Teaching Assistant role:
- Previous experience supporting children with ASD (essential)
- Experience working with non-verbal pupils (desirable)
- Makaton knowledge or training (beneficial)
- A calm, patient, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and supporting pupil welfare
