SEND Tutor (on-site)
Powertutors
We have more than a dozen students across the Medway area right now. Children with EHCPs, real potential, and a genuine need for the right tutor. If that sounds like your kind of work, read on and apply.
THE ROLE You’ll work one-to-one with children who are educated at home, mostly under an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). These are long-term placements - not one-off sessions. The students you’ll work with thrive on consistency, and so do we.
Subjects available for tuition may include: Maths, English, core curriculum (KS1 to KS4), Functional Skills, and EYFS play based learning for younger children.
Most of your students will have autism (ASD), ADHD, social and emotional mental health needs (SEMH), or anxiety-based school avoidance. Some will have PDA profiles. All of them will benefit enormously from a tutor who gets them.
WHERE YOU’LL WORK All sessions are in-person, at the student’s home or an agreed local venue. You’ll need your own transport.
Our students are spread across the ME postcode area.
Not sure if you’re close enough? If you’re within 30 to 40 minutes of Medway, you probably are.
HOURS AND PAY Pay: £25 to £30 per hour, depending on your experience and the complexity of the placement.Hours: 5 to 15 guaranteed hours per week during term time. Many of our placements run 12 to 15 hours per week - this is substantive, long-term work.
Contract: Freelance and self employed.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Experience working with SEND learners - particularly ASD, ADHD or SEMH. This is essential, not desirable.
We welcome tutors with a broad background of experience. Degree level qualifications or QTS are preferred but not essential. We also welcome specialist teaching or tutoring experience.
Based in or near the ME postcode area (Gillingham, Chatham, Rochester, Strood and Rainham). Ideally you will have your own transport.
A current Enhanced DBS check. If you don’t have one, we’ll guide you through the application from day one.
A safeguarding training certificate from the last two years. Level 2 or above preferred for complex SEND placements.
The right to live and work in the UK.
We aim to respond to every application within 2 working days. If you’re a good fit, we’ll start with a 10-minute call. Nothing formal, just a conversation.
WHY POWERTUTORS IS DIFFERENT
Most tutoring platforms in the UK are marketplaces. You build your own profile, find your own students, and pay a platform fee or lose a cut of every lesson. There’s no one actively working to find you the right students, no one in your corner when things go wrong, and no security in the income.
Powertutors is built differently.
You’ll have a named personal contact - a real person who knows your profile, understands what you’re good at, and works to find you the right students. Not a chatbot, not a help desk. Someone who picks up the phone.
You’ll join a community of specialist SEND tutors who face the same challenges you do. Monthly CPD webinars, a newsletter that covers things that actually matter to your work, and a peer network of educators who get it.
We make compliance smooth - DBS, right to work, safeguarding certification. We’ve done it thousands of times and we’ll make it straightforward for you.
Some of the most rewarding teaching relationships our tutors have ever had started here.
Powertutors is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Powertutors Ltd, Company No. (phone number removed), 29 Linkfield Lane, Redhill, RH1 1SS.
