SEND Specialist Tutor - Sunderland

As a SEND Specialist Tutor, you will plan and deliver engaging, tailored lessons based on each learner's individual needs, abilities, and learning style.

You may have experience as a teacher, tutor, teaching assistant, or working with children and young people in an educational or therapeutic setting. Your role will be to support the learner's education and wellbeing, provide structure and routine, and help them continue making progress while an appropriate educational placement is identified.

Tutors will work closely with Prospero Teaching and provide weekly progress updates covering engagement, achievements, challenges, and areas for development.

Part-time and full-time opportunities are available, offering flexibility while making a meaningful difference to the educational journey of young people with SEND in Sunderland

Contract/Position Details:

  • Location - Various locations across Sunderland
  • Position - SEND Specialist Tutor
  • Type of work - Contract
  • Start date - ASAP
  • Setting - either within the student's home or in the community (learning hub/library)
  • Duration - Until the pupil is able to find a suitable school placement
  • Contract type - Temporary
  • Full-time/part-time availability, ranging from 6-15hours p/w per student
  • Rate of pay - up to £30 per hour (negotiable)

Your role with us:

  • Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition supporting students with SEND, focusing on building confidence, teaching life skills, how to safely access the community, simple cooking and fostering independence
  • Develop and implement personalised lesson plans that address individual learning gaps.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular, constructive feedback to students and their families.
  • Create a supportive and motivating learning environment to help students re-build their confidence in learning.
  • Complete daily attendance and weekly reports.

Experience, Training and Qualifications of the SEND Specialist Tutor:

  • Children related/Education qualification
  • Possess UK classroom teaching experience
  • Be creative, patient and willing to think outside of the box
  • Have experience working with students with SEND including ASD, ADHD, GLD and challenging behaviours

To be eligible for this role, the potential SEND Specialist Tutor must:

  • Hold the right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Be able to reference the last two years of education/employment
