Senior Accountant

A client-facing accountancy role with progression, variety and real influence.

Are you an Accountant who enjoys working with people as much as working with numbers

Our client is looking for a Senior Accountant to join their award-winning accountancy practice in Croydon. This is an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified or fully qualified Accountant who wants to develop beyond a purely technical, desk-based role.

You will manage and develop your own portfolio of clients, build trusted relationships, explain financial information clearly, and help business owners make better decisions. You will also be supported to keep developing your technical skills, confidence and career.

This is a role for someone who wants progression, variety and the chance to become a valued adviser to clients, not just the person who prepares the accounts.

Why Join Our Client

Our client is a supportive, sociable and ambitious accountancy practice where people are encouraged to grow.

The firm takes pride in developing its team. One current team member joined as a trainee and has progressed to managing their own portfolio of clients, with the mentoring, support and opportunities needed to build a career they are proud of.

You will be joining a team that values professionalism, personality and progress. The work is varied, the clients are interesting, and you will be encouraged to bring energy, confidence and a positive approach to your role.

What You’ll Gain

You will receive:

  • Full-time, Monday to Friday working pattern
  • Salary £35 – £50K per annum dependant on experience
  • Study support packages available, depending on your qualification journey
  • 20 days’ annual leave, rising to 25, plus bank holidays
  • Company pension scheme
  • Critical illness cover and life insurance
  • Regular company events and team activities
  • Employee mentoring and genuine career development
  • A supportive, sociable team that celebrates progress and success

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Senior Accountant, you will play an important role in supporting, advising and building strong relationships with clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and developing relationships with a portfolio of clients
  • Acting as a trusted, approachable point of contact for clients
  • Preparing, reviewing and delivering accurate, high-quality accountancy work
  • Providing clear, practical advice to help clients understand their numbers
  • Supporting clients with tax planning, business growth and wider accountancy matters
  • Reviewing and supporting the work of junior team members
  • Using accounting software and Microsoft Office confidently and effectively
  • Helping clients make informed, confident business decisions

This role has a strong client-facing element, so you will need to be comfortable talking to clients, asking good questions, explaining financial information clearly and building long-term relationships.

What They’re Looking For

They are looking for someone who is technically capable, commercially aware and naturally confident with people.

You will need:

  • Part-qualified or fully qualified accountancy status, ideally ACCA or AAT
  • At least 3 years’ experience in an accountancy practice
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge
  • Confident communication skills
  • The ability to explain financial information in a clear and engaging way
  • A proactive, helpful approach
  • A genuine interest in supporting clients and helping businesses succeed
  • Good working knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office
  • The ability to reliably commute to Croydon, CR0 4NG, or relocate before starting work
  • Strong English language skills for client communication

Who This Role Would Suit

This role would suit an Accountant who enjoys variety, responsibility and client contact.

You may already be managing client relationships, or you may be ready to take that next step. Either way, you will be someone who wants to grow, contribute and become more than just technically good.

You will enjoy this role if you like building rapport, explaining numbers in a way people understand, and helping clients feel more confident about their business.

The Application Process

As part of the application, you will complete a short online recruitment process which takes approximately 10 minutes.

This helps both you and our client understand whether the role, working style and opportunity are likely to be a strong mutual fit.

If you are looking for an accountancy role with more client contact, more variety and genuine career development, our client would be pleased to hear from you.
