An exciting opportunity has arisen to join High Speed Two Ltd (HS2) as a Senior Asset Manager – Civils (Structures) within the Infrastructure Maintenance & Asset Management team.

This is a unique client-side role offering the opportunity to influence the long-term operation, maintenance and performance of one of Europe's largest infrastructure programmes.

Unlike traditional asset management positions focused on maintaining existing infrastructure, this role represents the future maintainer's voice, ensuring assets are constructed and handed over in a manner that supports safe, efficient and cost-effective operation for decades to come.

Working across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering assets including tunnels, viaducts, bridges, earthworks, drainage systems and line-side structures, you will provide asset management assurance throughout the delivery lifecycle, helping shape how Britain's new high-speed railway is maintained from day one.

The Role

Reporting into the Asset Management team, you will act as the future maintainer's representative, reviewing assets as they transition from construction into operation.

A key focus of the role is ensuring that assets have been built, documented and handed over in a manner that supports efficient inspection, maintenance and lifecycle management.

You will review technical submissions, maintenance strategies, asset information and operational requirements, identifying risks to improve long-term asset performance and reliability.

Working closely with delivery teams, contractors and operational stakeholders, you will provide assurance that HS2's civil engineering assets meet future maintenance and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review civil engineering assets from an operational and maintainability perspective
  • Provide asset management assurance throughout design, construction and handover phases
  • Assess maintenance strategies, asset information and technical documentation
  • Identify maintainability, operational and whole-life cost risks
  • Influence engineering decisions to improve long-term asset performance
  • Support asset acceptance and operational readiness activities
  • Work closely with engineering, delivery and operational teams across the programme
  • Promote best practice asset management and lifecycle thinking across HS2
  • Support the development of maintenance regimes and asset management strategies

What We're Looking For

You are likely an Asset Manager, Senior Asset Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer with experience managing or maintaining civil engineering assets within rail, highways or other major infrastructure environments.

Essential Experience

  • Experience within Asset Management, Asset Engineering or Infrastructure Maintenance – open to client, contractor or consultancy experience.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering assets and maintenance requirements
  • Experience reviewing technical documentation, maintenance plans and asset information
  • Ability to identify operational and maintainability risks
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Practical understanding of asset lifecycle management
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant industry experience

Desirable Experience

  • Structures asset management experience – Bridges, Viaducts etc
  • Client-side Rail asset owner experience (Network Rail, TfL, Tram, overground) also Highways England, local authority structures background.
  • Bridges, viaducts, tunnels, earthworks or drainage assets
  • Asset Protection (ASPRO) experience
  • Highways asset management experience
  • Client-side infrastructure asset management experience
