Senior Bookkeeper / Transport Accounts Administrator (HGV) in Greenford Green

Posted by UKR Group

About the role

Our client is an established HGV and transport company looking for an experienced bookkeeper to take full ownership of their day-to-day accounts and office administration. You'll be the main point of contact for the company's finances, working closely with drivers, customers, suppliers and the company accountant.

This role suits someone who has worked in a busy transport or haulage office before, knows Sage inside out, and is confident managing both UK and Irish company accounts, including VAT in both jurisdictions. You'll be trusted to run the accounts with minimal supervision, so initiative and accuracy matter.

What you'll be doing

  • Day-to-day bookkeeping and accounts administration for both UK and Irish entities
  • Running the sales and purchase ledgers and completing bank reconciliations
  • Preparing VAT returns for HMRC and Irish Revenue
  • Processing invoices, payments and receipts, and checking invoices for discrepancies
  • Customer invoicing and credit control
  • Handling customer and supplier queries by phone and email
  • Managing driver paperwork and expenses
  • Processing transport costs, including fuel, tolls, repairs and maintenance
  • Keeping financial and transport records accurate and up to date
  • Liaising with the company accountant and supporting general office administration

What you'll need

  • Strong, proven bookkeeping experience
  • Confident, hands-on experience using Sage
  • Experience with both UK and Irish company bookkeeping and accounts
  • A good understanding of UK VAT (including Making Tax Digital), Irish VAT and general accounting procedures
  • Previous experience in HGV, haulage, transport or logistics
  • Comfortable dealing directly with HGV drivers, and professional with customers by phone and email
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Strong attention to detail, with good numerical and problem-solving skills
  • Well organised, able to work independently and trusted with confidential financial information

Desirable

It would help if you have strong Excel skills, experience with transport or fleet accounting systems, and experience working across multiple entities or cross-border transactions. Experience handling fuel cards, tolls, vehicle repairs, payroll or driver expenses would also be useful, as would a background in a busy transport office.

Who we're looking for

An experienced and dependable bookkeeper who can take ownership of both the UK and Irish accounts, communicate confidently with drivers and customers, and keep things running accurately without needing to be managed closely. Strong practical bookkeeping experience is essential, and transport or HGV industry experience is highly desirable.
