As a Senior Building Control Officer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that building projects comply with all relevant regulations and standards. Your expertise will be essential in safeguarding public safety and promoting sustainable building practices within the Epping area. You will be responsible for overseeing a variety of construction projects, from residential developments to commercial buildings, ensuring that they meet the necessary legal and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough inspections of building sites at various stages of construction to ensure compliance with building regulations, planning permissions, and health and safety standards.
- Review and assess building plans and specifications, providing expert advice to architects, developers, and contractors on compliance issues and best practices.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation on inspections, findings, and recommendations, ensuring that all records are maintained accurately and in accordance with legal requirements.
- Liaise with local authorities, stakeholders, and the public to address any concerns or queries regarding building control matters, fostering positive relationships and effective communication.
- Provide guidance and support to junior building control officers and other team members, sharing your knowledge and expertise to enhance team performance and professional development.
- Stay updated on changes to building regulations, legislation, and industry best practices, ensuring that your knowledge remains current and relevant.
- Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to building control, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
- Attend and contribute to meetings, both internally and externally, representing the building control team and advocating for best practices in construction and safety.
Requirements:
- A recognised qualification in building control, construction management, or a related field, such as a degree or diploma.
- Significant experience in building control, with a strong understanding of building regulations, planning legislation, and construction processes.
- Membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) or the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), is highly desirable.
- Registered at Class 2 or 3 with the Building Safety Regulator.
- Proficiency in using building control software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite, to manage documentation and reporting effectively.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex building plans and identify potential compliance issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including contractors, architects, and the public.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
