Senior Building Safety & Compliance Manager
Liquid
£64,938–£68,460 | London SE1 | Permanent | Local Government Pension Scheme
We’re recruiting for a Senior Building Safety & Compliance Manager to join a genuinely distinctive resident-managed housing organisation responsible for around 1,600 homes across Borough and Bermondsey.
This is not a conventional housing provider. Residents are at the heart of how the organisation is run, with strategic decisions made by a Board of resident directors elected by the people who live in its homes. Resident support for this model has remained at around 90% over 25 years – creating an organisation with a strong sense of community, accountability and purpose.
Its values are equally straightforward: do the right thing, keep promises, spend responsibly, celebrate diversity, treat people well and embrace new ideas.
The role
Building safety is a major organisational priority. You will lead statutory compliance and operational building safety across the housing portfolio, with the scope to strengthen services, improve assurance and have a direct influence on resident safety.
You will lead:
- Fire, gas, electrical, water hygiene, asbestos and lift compliance
- Building safety and Higher-Risk Building assurance
- FRA actions, compartmentation and building safety programmes
- Risk registers, audits, inspections and assurance frameworks
- Contractor and consultant performance
- Planned safety works, budgets, quality and value for money
- Governance and senior-level compliance reporting
- Resident safety communication and engagement
- The building safety and compliance team
- Emergency preparedness and major safety incident support
We’re looking for an experienced building safety or compliance professional with:
- At least 5 years’ significant compliance and/or building safety experience
- Building safety experience within social housing
- Experience across fire, gas, electrical, water, asbestos and lift compliance
- Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022, fire safety legislation and the social housing regulatory environment
- Experience managing teams, contractors and consultants
- Strong experience of risk, assurance, audits, governance and performance reporting
- The ability to explain technical safety issues clearly to residents and stakeholders
You will need:
- A degree, Level 5 qualification or equivalent relevant experience in building safety, fire safety, construction, housing, property management or health & safety
- IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate
- Recognised training or qualification in at least one building safety discipline, such as Fire Risk Assessment, Passive Fire Protection, Compartmentation, Fire Door Inspection, Building Safety Management or High-Rise Residential Buildings
Why join?
Alongside a salary of £64,938–£68,460, you’ll have access to the Local Government Pension Scheme – a valuable defined-benefit pension – and the opportunity to take a genuinely influential senior role in an organisation where decisions are close to residents and the impact of your work is visible.
For someone who wants responsibility, professional challenge and the chance to make homes safer within a genuinely resident-led organisation, this is a rare opportunity.
