Senior Business Development Manager
Crucial People Ltd
What you'll actually be doing and why it matters
This is a business development role for someone who wants genuine influence over growth strategy, target markets and client relationships, not just a sales target. You'll join an established BMS business at a key stage of its growth, working closely with senior leadership while being supported by experienced technical, estimating, project and service teams. Your remit will combine managing and developing a substantial existing client base with creating new business opportunities across London and the South East. You'll own the full sales journey from initial engagement through to proposal, negotiation, contract award and handover. You'll be trusted to develop strategic relationships with end users, consultants, facilities management providers, contractors and key decision-makers across the BMS market.
Why this move could be better
Many BMS sales roles are heavily focused on account maintenance, lead generation or short-term targets. This opportunity offers the chance to:
- Influence the sectors, clients and routes to market the business pursues.
- Work directly alongside senior decision-makers who are actively investing in growth.
- Manage existing key accounts while building your own strategic pipeline.
- Be supported by dedicated technical and operational teams throughout the sales process.
- Join a structured onboarding programme rather than being left to succeed alone.
To be successful, you'll ideally bring:
- A proven track record in BMS, BEMS, building controls or smart buildings business development.
- Strong knowledge of the UK building controls market and its routes to market.
- Experience winning and developing business with consultants, end users, contractors and FM organisations.
- The ability to manage medium and long-term opportunities involving multiple stakeholders.
- Technical credibility, with knowledge of BMS solutions and multi-manufacturer environments such as Trend and Tridium.
- Strong commercial awareness, presentation and negotiation skills.
This is not a role for someone whose experience has been limited to inbound enquiries, account maintenance or transactional sales. You'll be expected to create opportunities, develop strategic relationships, manage an existing client portfolio and take ownership of the complete sales cycle. Your development Your first six months will include a structured onboarding programme designed to give you a strong platform for success. You'll gain a detailed understanding of the business, existing accounts, live opportunities, technical capabilities and growth plans, before progressively taking ownership of proposals, pricing, negotiations and longer-term account development.
