We are seeking a Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer (Design Engineering) to join our Group Design Engineering team based at Urenco’s Capenhurst site. In this role, you will deliver Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) services, including technical feasibility and Best Available Technology (BAT) studies, for a variety of Urenco projects globally. As the Senior C&I Engineer, you will oversee the Conceptual and Basic Design of new builds or facility modifications, providing direction and oversight to third-party engineering service providers to ensure high-quality outcomes.
You will also play a crucial role in developing Urenco’s design standards to meet world-class safety and regulatory requirements, helping Urenco maintain its position as a preferred supplier within the nuclear enrichment sector. Your expertise will inform plant design specifications, asset management strategies, CapEx planning, and safety protocols, enhancing our safety and operational efficiency.

What you’ll do:
- Promote Safety Culture: Drive a proactive safety culture, conducting thorough analyses and fostering a learning mindset based on industry experience.
- Advanced Plant Design: Ensure that plant designs incorporate the latest technology and safety features aligned with industry best practices and nuclear sector insights.
- C&I Design Engineering: Lead, prepare, and advise the evaluation of Control & Instrumentation design on multiple projects, support feasibility studies, option analyses, and BAT studies.
- Conceptual and Basic Design Delivery: Lead and prepare high-quality Conceptual and Basic Design engineering deliverables and Specifications for Core Plant Technology (CPT) with a focus on the C&I discipline.
- Project Oversight and Quality Assurance: Provide direction acting as the intelligent customer and provide oversight for system integrator detailed design execution, ensuring high quality delivery and adherence to CPT basic design requirements.
- Technical Excellence: Define and maintain CPT design expertise according to Urenco’s high safety standards and the latest technological advances in design.
What do you need to thrive in this role?
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Specialist Knowledge: Recognised as an expert with in-depth knowledge and excellent problem-solving skills in C&I and automation.
- Proven Experience: Demonstrable track record of delivering complex design projects, including FEED and conceptual and basic designs for process facilities.
- Leadership Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a lead engineer role.
- Modelling and Simulation Skills: Proficiency in modelling and simulating integrated process systems (static and dynamic), considering mechanical and process requirements.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to apply expertise and past experience to solve challenges and contribute to organisational learning.
- C&I Expertise: Strong knowledge of C&I (automation) within the process industry.
- Data Analysis: Competency in analysing measurement data from complex process systems to troubleshoot, optimise performance, and determine root causes of events.

Security vetting
Due to the nature of the industry that Urenco operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status working for Urenco are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with regulations and official guidance issued by the relevant competent authorities for national security vetting. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced security clearance considerations apply to roles within Urenco owing to the particular activities that the Urenco Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment. Successful candidates will need to satisfy security requirements, and all offers of appointment are made subject to the successful approval of all checks initiated.
