Senior Civil Engineer

Adepto Technical Recruitment Ltd

Location: London, Warwick or Manchester
Working Arrangement: Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office
Contract: 6 months initially
Rate: £38–£50 per hour, Inside IR35
Discipline: Civil & Structural Engineering (C&S)

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our client on an initial 6-month contract, supporting an increased workload during a busy period.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced civil engineer to join a well-established Civil & Structural team and take ownership of design packages across a range of infrastructure and built-environment projects.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working with minimal supervision, taking responsibility for defined areas of work and delivering high-quality civil engineering designs from concept through to completion.

Candidates operating at a strong Engineer level or approaching Senior Engineer level may also be considered, depending on experience.

The Role

Working as part of a multidisciplinary Civil & Structural team, you will be responsible for delivering civil engineering design work across a broad range of areas.

You will need to demonstrate a well-rounded understanding of civil engineering, rather than experience focused solely on drainage design.

Key areas of experience include:

  • Drainage design
  • Earthworks
  • External works
  • Pavement design
  • Levels and grading
  • Utilities
  • Ducts and associated infrastructure
  • Wider site and infrastructure coordination
  • Working effectively within multidisciplinary project teams

You will be expected to take ownership of your allocated design work and deliver it independently, with minimal hand-holding.

Software Experience

Experience with the following is essential:

  • MicroDrainage and/or InfoDrainage
  • Civil 3D

Sector Experience

Sector background is not the key differentiator for this position. We are particularly interested in engineers who can demonstrate broad civil engineering design experience across projects incorporating multiple civil elements.

Relevant experience could include:

  • Power and energy
  • Rail
  • Highways and infrastructure
  • Building and development
  • Other complex infrastructure or multidisciplinary projects

Initial projects are expected to be within the Power sector, covering areas such as drainage, hardstanding, utilities and road interfaces associated with substations.

There may also be opportunities to support nuclear and defence projects in the future.

Security Clearance

Candidates must be eligible to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance.

Initial Power sector projects require basic clearance. Candidates who obtain SC clearance may also have the opportunity to work on nuclear and defence projects.

Please note that candidates unable to obtain SC clearance would not be eligible for nuclear or defence projects, although they may still be considered for suitable Power sector work.

About the Team

You will join an immediate Civil & Structural team of approximately 30 people, comprising civil engineers, structural engineers and technicians across a range of experience levels.

The wider UK Civil & Structural team consists of approximately 200 employees.

The role reports to an Associate within Civil & Structural and does not have direct line-management responsibility. Depending on your experience, you may however be required to coordinate design activities within a project.

About You

We are looking for a technically capable civil engineer who can demonstrate:

  • A relevant civil engineering degree or qualification
  • Strong technical knowledge across earthworks, drainage, pavement design and external works
  • Experience delivering civil engineering design packages across a broad civils scope
  • Experience using MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage and Civil 3D
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of defined design activities
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary project environments
  • Ideally, Chartered Engineer status or Incorporated Membership of ICE; Chartered candidates will be prioritised

Essential Eligibility

To be considered for this opportunity, you must:

  • Have existing right to work in the UK
  • Not require sponsorship or a work permit
  • Be eligible to obtain SC security clearance
  • Have experience with MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage and Civil 3D
  • Be able to demonstrate civil engineering design experience beyond drainage alone
