Connect2Hackney are looking for an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary ICT team with the London Borough of Hackney.

In this role, you will take the lead on designing, delivering, and optimising our self-service cloud infrastructure, operating systems, and business applications. You will ensure our platforms remain secure, highly available, sustainable, and performant, all while offering a high-quality user experience for our software engineers and suppliers. Working with an Agile mindset under broad direction, you will have a significant say in resource management, task assignment, and shaping our organisational cloud standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of solution architectures and design large, complex cloud-based service solutions while balancing functional and non-functional requirements.

  • Oversee the configuration, deployment, lifecycle management, and patching of server operating systems and critical business applications. Direct the migration of IT services from traditional infrastructure to cloud-based systems.

  • Take technical responsibility across all stages of software development and systems integration, driving capabilities around automation and continuous integration (CI).

  • Embed robust security controls into your designs to mitigate threats, actively monitor security compliance, investigate vulnerabilities, and maintain data integrity.

  • Motivate, inspire, and share expertise with a multi-disciplinary team. Build effective business relationships across the council, managing stakeholder needs with diverse objectives.

  • Participate on a rota basis with other senior managers to coordinate and deliver effective user support (including out-of-hours support where applicable, for which an additional payment is offered).

Who We Are Looking For

We want a proactive professional who thrives at an SFIA Level 5 standard. You should bring technical expertise across:

  • Cloud Engineering & Solution Architecture (predictive and adaptive/agile approaches).

  • Programming, Software Development, and Systems Integration.

  • Network Design & IT Infrastructure optimisation.

  • Security Operations and server operating system configurations.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally, you are educated to a bachelor's degree level and/or hold a relevant professional qualification (e.g., AWS certification).

  • Note: Consideration will gladly be given to applicants without these formal qualifications if you can demonstrate you have successfully worked at a similar level.
