Nelson Permanent Placements are currently recruiting on behalf of our client who are a well-established engineering business delivering high-quality electrical and control solutions across the power sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering fully operational systems, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.

Our client builds, wires, tests and commissions their panel and offers their services to the industrial markets such as Food, Brewery, Data Centre & Rail.

Due to ongoing growth our client is now looking for an experienced Test & Commissioning Engineer.

To be considered for the role you must …

  • Have Switchgear Test & Commissiong experience within Industrial markets
  • Solid experience with complete commissioning on transformers and switchgear
  • Happy to travel UK wide as and when required 

It would be highly preferred for candidates to  have Siemens and Schneider switchgear experience.

Package

  • Competitive basic salary (DOE)
  • OT kicks in after 8hrs per day paid at an enhanced rate

Hours

  • Monday to Friday. Hours are 8am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday, with Friday finishing at 1:30pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and recommend preventative actions for any commissioning-related near misses or incidents.
  • Carry out and document all pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Deliver and hand over fully operational systems for client acceptance.
  • Ensure all health & safety procedures are strictly followed and documentation is maintained on-site.
  • Maintain commissioning schedules, handover documentation, and witnessing records, ensuring timely submission to the Project Manager.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and support customer witnessing.
  • Ensure all equipment, tools, and materials are removed from site prior to project completion.
  • Support wider project teams and undertake additional duties as required by senior management.

Skills & Experience Required

  • HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within the power industry, ideally working with switchgear.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems including MVAC, LVAC, protection panels, transformers, and switchgear (415V–132kV).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Full UK driving licence.
