Senior Civil, Structural & Architectural Engineer – Nuclear

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to support the delivery of a major nuclear infrastructure project. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and oversight of civil and structural engineering activities, ensuring design solutions are developed, reviewed, and implemented in line with project requirements, regulatory expectations, and construction needs.
Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering, construction, and client teams, you will play a key role in design assurance, site support, technical problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and support to civil and structural engineering teams.
- Review, check, and approve design deliverables, calculations, drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Assess and manage technical queries, design changes, and construction-related engineering issues.
- Support the progression of structural design packages through to construction and as-built status.
- Interface with multidisciplinary design teams, construction teams, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.
- Participate in risk reviews, engineering assessments, and safety-related activities.
- Provide technical support to safety case development and design justification activities.
- Review external works designs, including drainage systems, concrete structures, and infrastructure interfaces.
- Conduct regular site visits, inspections, and walkdowns to resolve engineering and construction issues.
- Liaise with site infrastructure and utilities teams to ensure engineering proposals are aligned with operational requirements.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with a relevant professional institution such as ICE or IStructE.
- Significant experience delivering major projects within highly regulated industries.
- Strong background in civil and structural design, engineering assurance, and construction support.
- Experience within the nuclear sector, including new build, operational, or decommissioning environments.
- Excellent understanding of engineering design principles and relevant British Standards.
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership and mentor engineering teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain UK security clearance.
Location & Travel
The role requires regular attendance at a North West England office, typically three days per week, together with routine site visits to a major nuclear licensed site.
Security Requirements
Candidates must have current SC clearance for this position.
