White Label Recruitment is working with an established manufacturing business that is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its design and product development team.

This is a varied role combining mechanical design, product development and project delivery. You will work alongside Development Engineers and Design/Project Engineers, taking responsibility for the design, development and continuous improvement of an established product range.

Working closely with colleagues across manufacturing, sales, electrical engineering and marketing, you will help deliver innovative, commercially viable products from initial concept through to manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop new products from initial concept through to manufacture and introduction.
• Review existing products and identify improvements in performance, quality, cost and manufacturability.
• Work with sales teams and customers to develop and prototype new product concepts.
• Manage design and development projects against agreed budgets and timescales.
• Produce engineering calculations, specifications, drawings and technical documentation.
• Ensure products comply with relevant legislation, engineering standards and quality requirements.
• Support technical submissions, customer enquiries and commercial activities when required.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and electrical engineering teams to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions.
• Research new technologies, materials and engineering methods for future product development.
• Support continuous improvement across the wider engineering function.

About You

The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical engineering background and experience within a manufacturing, product development or industrial engineering environment.

You should be able to demonstrate:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Proven experience in a senior mechanical design, product development or engineering leadership position.
• Strong product development and project management experience.
• A sound understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles.
• Experience producing and reviewing engineering calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
• Strong 3D CAD skills and experience using simulation or FEA tools.
• The ability to balance technical requirements with commercial objectives.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Knowledge of quality and environmental management systems.
• Experience using SAP or a similar ERP system would be advantageous.
• IMechE membership would be beneficial, while Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous.
