White Label is working with a well-established engineering and manufacturing business in Bradford that requires an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join their New Product Development team.

As Senior Design Engineer, you will act as Design Authority on complex technical projects, taking ownership from initial concept through to design release and build support. You will work within the NPD process, generating design concepts, evaluating technical risks and driving continuous improvement all while working collaboratively across engineering, quality and commercial functions.

My client is offering a salary of £60,000 – £70,000 + bonus, plus benefits:

Duties of the Senior Design Engineer

  • Acting as Design Authority on assigned projects, taking full responsibility for the delivery of the technical solution.
  • Generating technical requirements from customer or product specifications and developing design concepts to meet them.
  • Documenting design assumptions, trade-offs and calculations within the project design file.
  • Evaluating design concepts for technical and project risk, selecting preferred solutions and peer reviewing technical content at gate reviews.
  • Generating test plans to verify design concept and system performance.
  • Using FMEA techniques to identify and capture project technical risks throughout the lifecycle.
  • Preparing and presenting technical reports for project gate reviews.
  • Contributing to NPD planning activities and adopting NPD processes and tools throughout projects.
  • Co-ordinating with the quality department to define incoming inspection requirements and verify component quality.
  • Providing technical support to the publications department for the creation of product manuals, build books and SOPs.
  • Identifying opportunities for the protection of design intellectual property (IP).

Experience Required of the Senior Design Engineer

  • Degree-level qualification in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experienced user of CAD systems for generating 3D models and engineering drawings.
  • Proven experience leading technical projects, with strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles.
  • Technical knowledge across mechanical transmission, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical drive systems.
  • Knowledge of material properties and standards, machining methods, sensor technologies, and drawing and BOM configuration management.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with a proactive, innovative approach and a professional concern for quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to internal teams, suppliers and customers.
