Senior Development Chemist

  • Annual Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 p/annum
  • Location: West Yorkshire
  • Job Type: Permanent, Full-time, fully site based

We are seeking a Development Chemist to join our client's team. This role is essential for supporting their production processes, resolving technical issues, and driving product development and assisting quality control. I'm looking for someone who enjoys the challenge of new product development!

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide production support by resolving technical issues and investigating customer complaints.
  • Develop and enhance the product portfolio by improving existing products and introducing new solutions.
  • Undertake research projects focused on expanding product range, improving quality, and optimising costs.
  • Collaborate with the Purchasing Controller to source new materials and identify suppliers that enhance manufacturing quality and efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Customer Service Team and Quality Improvement Manager to address customer concerns promptly and protect the company's online reputation.
  • Analyse competitor products to ensure our technology remains competitive and innovative.
  • Maintain and update manufacturing documentation, including new formulations, to support efficient production processes.
  • Work alongside the QC chemist and assist with routine quality testing when needed and coordinate with external partners for product accreditation.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance overall efficiency and profitability

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science or a related discipline
  • Demonstrates a safety-first mindset.
  • Knowledge of commercial resin systems, particularly Epoxies and Polyurethanes.
  • Commercially aware, with the ability to evaluate products and identify opportunities to improve margins.
  • Experience implementing new testing equipment for quality control testing.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both customers and suppliers.
  • Previous experience within a chemical manufacturing or industrial environment is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Excel, with confidence in handling numerical data.
  • Flexible approach, including willingness to travel and work occasional unsociable hours.
  • Highly motivated, with a strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail.
