Senior Devops Engineer

Rate: Up to £749 per day (Inside IR35)

Location: Hybrid/remote (UK-based – National/London 1–2 days/week max for local candidates, less for national candidates)

Contract Length: 6 months

Security Clearance: Active SC required

We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support a high-profile government programme. This role requires strong hands-on expertise in cloud infrastructure, automation, and modern DevOps practices, working within a secure and highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines and delivery automation solutions
• Manage and optimise Git-based source control workflows across engineering teams
• Operate and support production systems on AWS
• Implement and maintain infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Develop automation and tooling using Python to improve operational efficiency
• Support live services including incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
• Work closely with engineering teams to improve deployment reliability and developer experience
• Apply a structured, evidence-led approach to diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience in DevOps or Platform Engineering roles
• Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)
• Strong knowledge of Git-based workflows and source control best practices
• Commercial experience operating workloads in AWS (preferred cloud provider)
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
• Strong proficiency in Python for automation and tooling
• Experience supporting production-grade cloud environments
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with a structured approach

Desirable Experience

• Experience within government or highly regulated environments
• Containerisation and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Observability tools (logging, monitoring, alerting, tracing)
• Improving developer experience and platform reliability at scale
