Rate - £70 - 72Ltd per hour (outside IR35 due to companies SME status)
Hours - 40 hours (Hybrid 2 days onsite in Reading and 3 days from home)
Paid frequency - Monthly pay
Duration - 6 months (ongoing likely)

The opportunity
Our client is currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to support a high-profile nuclear project based in Reading. This role is ideally suited to engineers with strong EC&I design experience within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, defence, or similar. Due to project sensitivities, candidates must hold at least SC clearance, with a preference for those who are DV cleared.
Duties
- Deliver EC&I engineering design packages to a high technical standard and in line with project timescales.
- Prepare and review designs including:
- Control panel design
- Wiring schematics and details
- Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
- Motor integration and specifications
- Cable calculations
- Containment system design and layout
- Ensure all EC&I designs meet required standards and comply with relevant industry regulations.
- Engage with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders to deliver integrated design solutions.
- Provide technical input and problem-solving during the design, installation, and commissioning phases.
- (Optional but beneficial) Apply knowledge of Functional Safety (IEC 61508 / 61511) where applicable.
- Proven experience as an EC&I Engineer within a highly regulated sector (nuclear, defence, energy, etc.).
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Strong working knowledge of electrical design, control systems, and instrumentation.
- Familiarity with control panel design, VSDs, and motor control.
- Capable of producing detailed documentation including wiring diagrams, cable routing plans, and calculation packs.
- Competent in relevant software tools (e.g. AutoCAD Electrical, Amtech, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of electrical containment systems and cable routing standards.
- Eligibility for SC clearance as a minimum; preference will be given to DV-cleared candidates.
