Position: Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Oxford (Hybrid)
Overview
My client is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join its Oxford office on a hybrid working basis. This role sits within a multidisciplinary building service engineering team, delivering high-quality electrical design solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects including commercial, residential, education, and healthcare developments. They work on commercial, residential, education, healthcare and retail and also sustainability.
This is a senior-level position suited to an experienced engineer who can lead design delivery, and take ownership of projects from concept through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
You will take a leading role in the delivery of electrical building services design, including:
- Leading electrical design on projects from concept through detailed design and construction stages
- Producing and reviewing detailed design calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports
- Coordinating with mechanical engineers, architects, structural engineers, and external stakeholders
- Ensuring compliance with UK Building Regulations, relevant British Standards, and client requirements
- Undertaking site inspections, technical surveys, and supporting construction phase services
- Managing project deliverables, deadlines, and technical quality control
- Supporting and mentoring junior and intermediate engineers within the team
- Contributing to client meetings, design reviews, and technical presentations
- Assisting in fee proposals, scope definition, and project planning where required
Required Skills and Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered status (CEng) or working towards it (IET or CIBSE preferred)
- Strong experience in electrical building services design within the UK consultancy environment
- Proficiency with design tools such as Amtech/Trimble, Dialux/Relux, and AutoCAD (Revit experience desirable)
- Solid understanding of UK regulations, including BS 7671 and Building Regulations Part L
- Experience leading projects and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver to deadlines
