Senior Electronics Engineer
Avanti Recruitment
This is a broad, hands-on role for an electronics engineer who enjoys taking genuine ownership of hardware, from initial design through to PCB manufacture, bring-up, testing and iteration.
Rather than owning one small part of a much larger development process, you will have the opportunity to take responsibility for complete pieces of hardware and see the results of your work quickly.
The Role
You will work across the full electronics development lifecycle, including:
- Mixed-signal electronics design
- Low-noise and precision analogue circuitry
- Schematic capture and PCB design/layout
- Component selection
- High-resolution ADCs, DACs and associated signal chains
- Board manufacture, bring-up and debugging
- Hardware characterisation and validation
- Hands-on laboratory testing
- Sensor and system integration
- Test automation and data analysis
- Supporting hardware bring-up using embedded C and Python
The company uses Altium, and you will ideally have personally taken multiple PCB designs from concept through to working hardware.
You will work alongside engineers across specialist technical disciplines, so an understanding of how electronics fits into a wider system will be valuable.
What We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in engineers who can demonstrate:
- Strong hands-on electronics design experience
- Mixed-signal and analogue capability
- Low-noise or precision electronics experience
- Strong PCB design and layout skills
- Experience personally taking boards through manufacture, bring-up and testing
- Practical laboratory and hardware debugging skills
- Experience with embedded C and/or Python for hardware bring-up, testing or automation
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of technical problems
- Experience developing and iterating physical hardware at pace
FPGA experience would be useful but is not essential.
We're open to candidates from a range of technical industries. What's most important is the electronics you have personally designed, built, tested and delivered.
The Environment
This is a small, technically led engineering team where individual contribution is highly visible.
You'll be given significant ownership and will be encouraged to contribute ideas, challenge technical approaches and find practical solutions rather than simply follow a predefined process.
The role would particularly suit someone who enjoys building things, solving difficult hardware problems and working in an environment where designs can move quickly from an idea to physical hardware.
Because of the hands-on nature of the work, this position is predominantly on site in Bristol.
