The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer / Virtualisation Specialist to join an established technical team supporting critical government platforms and services.

You’ll be working across both BAU support and project delivery, providing hands-on expertise across VMware/Broadcom virtualisation technologies. The role will involve supporting existing infrastructure, troubleshooting and maintaining services, as well as helping to design and implement new services as part of ongoing project work.

This is a technically hands-on role suited to someone with strong VMware infrastructure experience and a good understanding of enterprise virtualisation environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and maintain enterprise VMware/Broadcom infrastructure and associated services.
• Provide technical support across BAU and project activities.
• Configure, administer and troubleshoot VMware environments.
• Support the implementation of new infrastructure and services.
• Contribute to infrastructure migration and transformation projects.
• Work collaboratively with other infrastructure and technical teams.
• Provide technical knowledge transfer and support to colleagues.
• Participate in an on-call rota to support critical BAU services.
• Assist with continuous improvement and operational resilience across the environment.

Technical Skills & Experience

You should have strong commercial experience working with VMware virtualisation technologies, including:

• VMware ESXi
• vCenter
• HA (High Availability)
• vSAN
• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
• VMware NSX
• VMware Aria

Experience with Broadcom VMware technologies is particularly relevant.

Experience of public cloud environments and/or migrating VMware workloads to public cloud would also be advantageous.

Certifications

Essential:

• VMware VCP-DCV

Desirable:

• VMware VCAP
• VMware NSX certification

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the environment, candidates must:

• Be a British citizen only.
• Have been resident in the UK for at least 2 of the last 5 years.
• Hold SC clearance or be willing and eligible to undergo the UK Government security clearance process.

Candidates without existing SC clearance may still be considered, subject to eligibility and successful completion of the required vetting process. Clearance can take approximately 6–8 weeks.

IR35 / Engagement

The engagement has been assessed as inside IR35.

Engagement will therefore need to be through an appropriate PAYE or compliant UK umbrella arrangement, subject to the agreed engagement route.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can operate confidently at senior level within a complex enterprise infrastructure environment, with strong hands-on VMware expertise and the ability to work across both operational support and project delivery.

You'll need to be comfortable troubleshooting technical issues, working collaboratively with other engineers and taking ownership of infrastructure services.
